Radiogenic Chronology


Below are some examples of integrated chronology studies of ore deposits that were supported by both mining and academic funding sources. My contribution to these projects is to provide ages of mineralization with Re-Os isotopes to compare with hydrothermal alteration, crystallization and exhumation ages from other geochronological systems.

Most sulfide minerals have provided relevant chronological information with molybdenite being the robust due to the high concentrations of Re and Os in this mineral. Pyrite, chalcopyrite, gold, sphalerite and other sulfides have provided useful chronological data, however due to the lower concentrations in these mineral phases the errors are larger for the calculated ages.
