My recent research has focused on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL), and assesIng Quantitative Reasoning and Critical Thinking skills in particular. I am a member of the board of Juniata's James Lakso Center for Teaching and Learning (assuming Directorship for the 2012-13 Academic year), which coincides nicely with my work as a Teagle Teaching and Learning Scholar (here is an overview, from Change magazine, on performance tasks, as well as our Biographies), where I facilitated workshops on the development of Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) Performance Tasks. Besides being named a Teagle Scholar, during the 2010-11 academic year I received the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Teaching Award for the Allegheny Mountain Section, I was promoted to Full Professor, and I was honored with the John '54 and Irene '58 Dale Endowed Professorship in IT, CS, and Math. What a year. I also serve on Juniata's ACE Leadership team for Internationalization. In 2011-12 our group wrote the application for the Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization, and we were one of five institutions selected! My other research interests include Algorithmic Experimentation, Scientific Computing, and Parallel Computing. My Ph.D. thesis (Parallel Nonconforming Spectral Element Solution of the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations in Three Dimensions – Advisor: Dr. Paul Fischer, 1997) was in computational fluid dynamics. A visualization of one flow that I have studied is at the following link: http://www.mcs.anl.gov/~fischer/cfd/noncon.html .

Oh, my nickname is Jerry. That's with a "J," not a "G."
So I also answer to Jerry Kruse. I started running in 2008, and love it. My wife and kids think this video pretty much captures my attitude for running. I've completed a bunch of 5K's, a 10K, a mini-triathlon, and most recently a half-marathon. Yea for me...
